[REVIEW]-The Body Shop Juicy Pear Exfoliating Sugar Body Scrub & Body Butter

The Body Shop is a beauty company based in UK; well-known for its delicious body products and their fame even spread til Asia. I myself is a huge HUGE fan of their body butter. Most of their products are cruelty-free, ethnically-sourced and embedded with natural ingredients such as roses, mango, peach, honey, green tea etc.

During Christmas in 2019, The Juicy Pear was curated for their seasonal collection. I had a fortune of visiting UK during that period of time, and was able to grab hold of this new line. Within a single smell, I was completely hooked. I only bought their sugar body scrub and body butter as I have alot of body washes back at home (sad, me) and I have been using both of them ever since. So now, after using them for around a month, I am so ready to give out my review.

REVIEW:

NOTE:

  • My Age: 20
  • My Nationality: Asian
  • Skin Color: Yellow
  • Body Skin Type: A bit dry, have backacne & chestacne, have a bit of scar from those blemishes.
Let's talk about the exfoliating sugar body scrub first!

One of the main ingredient in the products beside peach is an organic sugar cane. Instead of using regular sugar, the company use sugar cane from their own farm in Paraguay to create the sugary texture to help buff out our rough skin texture. This is probably why I find the scrub a bit more sticky and dense than normal and unlike regular sugar, it doesn't easily melt off when came in contact with water.

As I have mentioned above, I am completely head over heel with its smell. Well, that's what attract me in the first place. It has a fruity smell "pear" mixed with a little bit of sweetness which I believe comes from the sugarcane scrub. And just like what its description said, I do think the smell is festive befitting its released on Christmas time. Plus it's green. Totally remind me of Christmas Tree LOL. Moreover, I think because the ingredients are not artificially created, the product doesn't has a smell of chemical at all; in fact it smells good enough to eat and it soothes me immensely whenever I rub the scrub all over my body.

I only tend to scrub my skin once or twice per week but usually once. You can leave the product on for 5 to 10 minutes but for me, I never want to spend too much time in the bathroom so I always immediately rinse it off after I finish exfoliating, and I'm still satisfied with the result after. Not only do I smell divine but my entire body feel so smooth, so soft and so clean. Of course, during the process, I dilute the scrub with a tiny amount of water to soften them so that they didn't irritate my sensitive area where I have acne and blemishes. I even notice a brightening effect before and after I use the scrub. The sugar particle appear to be gentler than salt because I felt like the whole rubbing it against my body was not as harsh compared to when I use sea salt as an exfoliator. Even my backacne and chestacne look a tiny bit calmer.  It was a really great experience.

Now for the body butter version!

The Body Butter smells just like the body scrub- yummy, fruity, and festive. The texture upon opening the package is hard unlike the whipped kind of butter. You can either scoop up the cream but it will kinda crack up the whole butter or u can rub it against your fingers and they will melt off against your body temperature and transform into an oily soft cream.

For the picture above, I have used my finger to melt off the butter for almost a month, that's why it turns into a softer creamy texture, plus I live in a hot country so things melt off easily.

Before coming across The Body Shop brand, I have never used a body butter in my life or even aware of their existence- I only use lotion or cream, which is why I was so intrigued when I saw the its body butter product for the first time. Basically, a body butter is usually used just like a body lotion but it's been known to be more moisturizing and nourishing, suitable for dry skin or during winter time.

For Juicy Pear Body Butter, looking at their ingredients make me fall in love with the product deeper because they includes my three favorite ingredients: Shea Butter, Cocoa Seed Butter, and Sesame Oil. Shea Butter which the Body Shop produced through a traditional handcraft techniques in a lengthy 18-stage process by Ghana women, helped tremendously with skin enrichment, and intense moisturizing. Cocoa Seed Butter has similar ability but it can also used for anti-aging purposed like reducing wrinkles, fine line, and creating suppleness. As for Sesame Oil, it has a high level of antioxidants and antibacterial so if your skin is inflamed, or damaged, sesame oil could act as your remedy.

For me, I just love to hydrate my skin- both face and body. I don't mind the oiliness that came with its usage because it does feel oily but you can quickly notice how sleek and lively your skin look after the application. Juicy Pear Body Butter work exactly like that. It gave me a satisfying moisture and a long-term fruity smell that clings on my skin for the entire night.

Overall

So to sum it all up, I truly enjoy using both Juicy Pear Exfoliating Body Scrub and their Body Butter. To be honest, my initial purchase was just about my infatuation with its smell. I did not expect them to work this well and give me such a satisfying result. The scrub wow me the most because I love my skin every time I rub it in the shower. The Body Butter instantly give life to my body. I LOVE LOVE this collection and I pray for them becoming a permanent line in the store.

But amidst all my love and affection, there are always a room for improvement, of course. For the Body Scrub, as much as I love its gentler application compared to salt, it is still not an easy and smooth process when I use it. Maybe because they use natural sugar particles, this is why the particles are sticky and hard to spread out on the skin even with the help of water. And that is all I can complain about the scrub. As for body butter, it played its role pretty well. It does what I expect it to do. It does what it claim it does so I have nothing to criticize it for.

Therefore, for my final rate:

  • Juicy Pear Exfoliating Body Scrub: 4.5/5
  • Juicy Pear Body Butter: 5/5
